Wedding speeches etiquette is quite simple to follow.

The following elements will make a top wedding speech to the bride. Incorporating all these elements into wedding speeches for the bride and groom can seem like a daunting task but with a little help from examples of wedding speeches and you will be fine. Just explain why the bride is special to you.

Remember the whole speech does not have to be funny. You can include some serious, personal and heartfelt sentiments about the bride and groom but try to finish with more humor. Afterall, this is a wedding speech not a funeral speech or eulogy.

Sincerity

Sincerity is the most important ingredient for wedding speeches. The speech should be sincere and personal to the bride and groom. Personal memories about experiences with the bride are always well received by the audience. Write the wedding speech from your heart and soul. This is vital to delivering a delivering a great speech that the bride will treasure forever.

Personality

What makes top wedding speeches is not perfect wording but delivering it with personality. It must appear to be natural and from the heart. Include thoughts and memories of the bride and her groom.

Humor

Funny wedding speeches will always be well received by the guests as humor is always a great way to create a happy occasion.

Try to make the humor light-hearted and not too embarrassing for the bride. You certainly don’t want to offend anyone.  After all, it is her special day to remember for the rest of her life. The tactic of trying to slightly embarrass the bride and groom is traditionally left up to best man wedding speeches and father of the groom wedding speeches but the bridesmaid can also do the same.

You could say something like….”And of course no good wedding speech would be complete without telling a story to embarrass the bride and perhaps her lovely groom…..”. Then tell a little story that is slightly embarrassing but don’t overdo it or you may offend someone. Think about how you would feel if the story was being told about you.

Speech Delivery

Don’t make the speech to long as you may be seen to be rambling. Usually a short speech up to 6 to 8 minutes is best. Be clear about what you are saying and make each point short and sweet. Sometimes a short speech including some quotes and/or jokes for wedding speeches is best. Try to relax and have some fun delivering the speech. You certainly don’t want to appear to be stiff and formal.

The best speeches are when the speaker stands up and delivers an original speech without referral to notes. Don’t read the whole speech from a sheet of paper. Make a note card with headings and summarised notes to make you remember the speech and refer to it if you get lost. However, don’t read from the card word for word. Practice the speech many times before hand so it appears to be natural.

Nervousness

Many people are naturally nervous speaking in front of a large crowd especially if they haven’t done that before. Everyone will be nervous on the wedding day. Imagine what the bride and groom are going through. With a well prepared speech that you have practiced many times you will be fine on the wedding day. Don’t worry about sounding emotional while making your bridesmaid speech. A wedding is an emotional experience and it is expected that some people may shed a tear or two. It’s ok….

Speak Slowly and Clearly

Try to speak clearly with good volume so the guests can hear you. Don’t try to rush through the speech. Take your time as you have the audience’s attention. Also, make sure you make adequate eye contact with the audience and not keep your head down reading the speech.

Don’t drink any alcohol

Don’t drink any alcohol (maybe one is ok) before delivering your wedding toast. Don’t think drinking before your speech will make it any better or easier. Alcohol may calm your nerves but too much alcohol will cause you to lose concentration and slur your words. You certainly don’t want your humorous wedding speech to be remembered for the wrong reasons.

If you follow these guidelines you will have a good wedding speech that you can be proud of and everyone will enjoy. However, the best thing to do is check out these free wedding speeches. They saved me so much time and prevented me from making any silly mistakes with my speech.

Maid of Honor Speeches Ideas

The first thing I did was start to note down my best memories of the bride. We had known each other since school and been very good friends for many years so there should be many speech topics I could talk about in my maid of honor speech. I decided to structure my speech around how I first met the bride, the overseas holiday we went on and what everybody wants to know – how the bride met her groom. This is a popular speech topic for all maid of honor speeches and will always be interesting for people to compare with the version of events in the best man speech.

The best Maid of Honor speeches are the ones that reflect on personal experiences that brought much happiness and joy to the bride. Just write about your own memories with the bride and write the speech in your own words and personality.

If you know of some event or memory that the groom, father of the bride or best man will include in their speeches perhaps it’s best to leave it out of your Maid of Honor Speeches.

Matron of Honor Speech Ideas

Maybe you are already married so you can include your matron of honor point of view. You are married and know what it is like to be in the bride’s position. You will have experienced wedding speeches at your own wedding and know what you liked (and maybe didn’t like) about it. Try to remember what stood out as the best elements of the speech and incorporate that into your speech. Think about what you would have liked your maid of honor speeches to have said about you…I’m sure this will help.
